Liner Notes
This former Los Angeles street musician has loads of cred and plenty of friends on his second release, Hell Can Wait. Moving effortlessly from country blues to jump blues and beyond, he delivers the goods on this 19 song set. A true blues survivor, Carlos has literally lived the hard-knocks life he sings about. Los Lobos' David Hildalgo is featured on track #4, "Shake My Blue" - which sounds like vintage Los Lobos - and Hildalgo also plays accordion on track #10, “Keep Me Satisfied.” Marcy Levy (Eric Clapton, Shakespeare Sister) contributes powerful soulful backing vocals throughout the album and keyboard player Gene Taylor (The Blasters, Fabulous Thunderbirds) turns in a solid performance as well.
Carlos' band Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs ruled the '80s Los Angeles club scene. (Van Halen even wrote a song about them called "Top Jimmy" on 1984.) After his first album, Straight From The Heart, Carlos Guitarlos was featured in a front page story in the Los Angeles Times (4/30/03). Since then, Carlos has been on NPR's Fresh Air, World Cafe and the KFOG San Francisco morning show. Carlos has made a substantial impact as well on the U.K. music scene where he has garnered rave reviews in the London Times, the Independent and Mojo magazine.
Besides “Shake My Blue," check out the boogie-woogie'in "Got No Time," the brassy blues-rocker "Get Back," the sweet R&B ballad “I Found Someone” - co-written and sung by Marcy Levy - or the down and dirty “Hole In My Pocket” (co-written with Top Jimmy). Closing out the album is Carlos' autobiographical and acoustic “I’ve Been Dead Since You’ve Been Gone."
