LEWIS TAYLOR

The Album
Stoned

The Label
Shout! Factory/Hacktone Records

Liner Notes
So who is this dude with the tight funky velvety grooves that recall vintage Sly Stone, Hendrix and Marvin Gaye? And where has he been? Eat your heart out, Lenny Kravitz and meet Lewis Taylor, singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire. An acclaimed cult artist in his native Britain for years, his fans include Elton John, David Bowie, Esthero and D'Angelo.

Stoned is pretty much a repackage of Taylor's UK album release Stoned, Pt 1, rounded out with the addition of five tracks from his vault. The dynamics of Stoned range from the layered killer title track, "Stoned Pt. 1" (first single) and next cut, the bouncy "Positively Beautiful," to the beautiful Temptation-like psychedelic swirling-harmonies of songs like "Til the Morning Light" and "When Will Ever Lean Pt. 1". Give a spin to the more adventurous "Sheneverdid" or "Throw Me a Line" and "Melt Away," the later two a definite nod to the Beach Boys. This could be the record you were waiting for from Santa to bust your station's sound loose from that tempo-challenged drone. Light up the room with a fresh injection of soul! KCRW, WXPN and WDET lead airplay on Lewis Taylor.
